Kasey & Zach’s wedding at Longshore Pavilion at Norwalk Cove will always be a wedding that I absolutely cherish. This sweet couple is beautiful inside and out, and I absolutely loved getting to know them during their engagement session. Working with sweet couples is truly a blessing. As a wedding photographer, it’s important to connect and build friendships with my couples. I don’t just see them as “clients”, but as a special part of my life! (Side note: I literally cry at every single wedding I photograph. I don’t think I’ve ever photographed a wedding where I haven’t shed a tear!)
So, you may be wondering why Kasey and Zach’s wedding was a wedding I will always cherish. Anyone who knows me, knows that I absolutely love dogs and they’re a huge part of our lives. We have 4 dogs and they are truly members of our family! A few months before Kasey & Zach’s wedding, we learned that our sweet pup, BamBam, had cancer. He had been sick with an autoimmune disease for a year and a half, and the cancer was a heartbreaking diagnosis. He was doing so well with his chemotherapy, when he suddenly developed pneumonia and became very sick. The evening before he passed away, I had a planned wedding call with Kasey & Zach to finalize their wedding timeline. We knew BamBam wasn’t doing well, and I wanted to visit him during hospital visiting hours – which just happened to be when the phone call was planned. Kasey and Zach were so flexible and didn’t mind moving their call by a few hours. Little did we know, that visit was the last time we ever got to see and hold BamBam. I’ll be forever grateful for Kasey & Zach’s grace and flexibility! Sadly, BamBam passed in the early hours the next morning. It was a shock, and our family was absolutely heartbroken. Just a few days after his passing, was Kasey & Zach’s wedding. One may think that it would be really bad timing to be grieving and have to hop back into work right away (my eyes were so swollen from crying so much, I was worried about how I’d look and be able to see through the camera!). But, photographing their wedding was honestly the greatest blessing I could have asked for. Kasey & Zach are the kindest people and their laughter and sweetness brought so much light to such a difficult time. Plus, I got to spend the day with my sweet second photographer / associate lead photographer, Cenobia. She definitely knows how to cheer someone up and make them laugh!
Throughout the wedding day, it rained on and off, was cold, and so gloomy. Regardless, everyone had fun and were great sports. But then, the most magnificent thing happened! As the sun was about to go down, we were suddenly blessed with not one or two rainbows, but three stunning rainbows and the most stunning glowing sunset! (I added iPhone pictures I quickly snapped at the end of this blog post!) Sometimes, even in heartbreak, and when things don’t make sense, God can work in the most beautiful and amazing ways. I know God placed Kasey & Zach in my life that difficult week because he knew that I’d need beautiful light during a difficult time. In the days between BamBam’s passing and Kasey & Zach’s wedding, I kept seeing little rainbows because of the way light would bounce and hit something I was looking at. And then seeing 3 rainbows at their wedding was such a blessing. I definitely knew God & BamBam were telling me all would be okay!
And so, in the midst of such a heartbreaking week, came the most memorable and beautiful wedding that I will always cherish and remember! I’ll be forever grateful to Kasey & Zach for their grace and kindness and for letting me be a part of such a beautiful day!
(The third picture on the far left had a double rainbow! From the image, it’s difficult to see the second rainbow because it was faint by the time I pulled out my iPhone, but it was there!)
